On behalf of more than 50,000 nicotine consumers, the World Vapers’ Alliance calls on policymakers in the Netherlands to abstain from banning or restricting less harmful alternatives to smoking, including nicotine pouches. Thousands die every year due to smoking-induced illnesses. Hence taking away a path that would replace cigarettes will hurt consumers and public health. Combined with the upcoming vaping flavour ban, the Netherlands is on its way to becoming one of the most restrictive countries in tobacco harm reduction, a country that once was regarded as a liberal economy that approached novel products with healthy pragmatism. Today, just like in the past, prohibition never works. Instead of learning from history, the Netherlands will push thousands of alternative nicotine users back to smoking or the black market. We urge you to listen to consumers and to science-based evidence. Attached you will find our reasoning for why this bill must be stopped.
