I am a highly skilled migrant currently residing in the Netherlands under the 30% ruling. I moved here in 2024 and have a five-year residence permit tied to my employment. chose the Netherlands for its welcoming environment, professional opportunities, and clear path to integration, including the possibility of applying for Dutch citizenship after five years of legal residence. The proposed extension of the naturalization period to 10 years significantly alters the expectations and plans of many skilled professionals like myself. It may reduce the attractiveness of the Netherlands as a long-term destination for international talent, especially when compared to other EU countries with more accessible citizenship pathways
I respectfully urge the government to consider:
Maintaining the 5-year requirement for highly skilled migrants who are actively contributing to the Dutch economy and society.
Introducing transitional provisions for those already residing in the Netherlands under the current rules. Evaluating the long-term impact of this change on talent retention and integration.
