If the government wants to improve the integration of non-Dutch people into the society, simply doubling the residence period for the application for Dutch citizenship will have no effect. Actually, it will have, but a bad one: it will demotivate other high-skilled migrants to move to the Netherlands. If that is what the government wants, it is a good plan.

But if the government really wants to foster integration, there are other much more effective ways. The main one I can think of is giving some incentives to the companies to immerse their foreign employees into the Dutch language and culture. Of course, that would require allocating work time from the Dutch employees to help with that. But I am sure that there are many colleagues willing to do so, as Netherlands is still a very welcoming country. I really hope that does not change, the Dutch people did a really good job into building their society.
