As highly skilled immigrants and employees who contribute significantly through high taxes, we carefully chose in advance the country we intended to move to. Our goal was to obtain citizenship within the prescribed period while integrating into the country’s culture. However, now that three years have passed and we have fulfilled all the requirements while continuing to pay high taxes, we consider the sudden extension of the required period to ten years to be a violation of fundamental rights. Moreover, we believe that this measure is unlikely to accelerate integration; rather, it may result in individuals who have not yet integrated being required to live for an extended period without achieving full integration. Additionally, it is important to recognize that such a policy could discourage educated professionals with diverse skills from choosing the Netherlands as their destination.
