I definitely agree with the need for expatriates such as myself to integrate well into the system. However, a blanket provision of 10 years is counter productive. For example, if the Dutch language is a priority, people who put in effort and learn the language faster should be given priority. Moreover, a sudden increase in naturalisation period would be unfair for people who are already here. Four years back, when I made the decision to make the Netherlands my home, the five year naturalisation period was one of the biggest pull factors. Even if the period is extended, people who are already here should be subject to existing rules.
