I'm a Highly skilled migrant in the Netherlands and I am deeply committed to the country as it is already my home in many ways. I believe in the value of Dutch citizenship and I respect that it should be granted to those who have demonstrated genuine connection and participation. However, increasing the waiting period to 10 years shifts from rewarding genuine integration to creating barrier. I respectfully ask you to preserve inclusion, fairness and recognition of existing contribution for the following reasons:
1.Existing contribution & integration
Many applicants who meet the current 5 year requirement are already actively working, paying taxes, learning Dutch, participating to local communities and contributing to Dutch Society. Extending it delays meaningful recognition of that investment and sends a message that one's commitment is not yet sufficient even after half a decade of living and working here.
2.Uncertainty & Fairness
10 year requirement creates greater uncertainty for people whose lives can change significantly in that time, jobs, housing, family and aging parents. Asking someone to wait double the current period undermines their ability to plan their future here. As immigration law experts note, even though this is a draft proposal, the possibility of such change already causes anxiety among residents.
3.Discouragement for integration
While the government states that the purpose of the extension is to ensure a 'durable connection' with the Netherlands, prolonging the waiting period may instead reduce the sense of belonging ang urgency to integrate. Having new rules that will make things more complicated may lead to more delays and doesn't give people the feeling that they're welcome here..
4.Practical Implications
5year period currently in place is internationally aligned. If the Netherlands shifts to 10 years, there is a risk that the country becomes less competitive in attracting talent and committed residents at a time when we need global professionals and diverse contributors.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
