In my opinion, making the waiting period for citizenship 10 years instead of 5 years would be very difficult for people like me. When someone comes to a new country, they are already trying to adjust, study, and build their life from the beginning. Five years is already a long time, but it still feels fair because during that period we can show that we are committed to the country, integrate into society, learn the language, and contribute through work or study.
Extending it to 10 years would feel discouraging. It would mean spending an entire decade without the full security of belonging to the country. For young people, especially students and workers, 10 years is a very long time—almost their whole early adulthood—before being able to fully plan their future. During that time, many decisions about work, housing, or even starting a family would remain uncertain because citizenship plays a big role in stability.
I also think that if possible, there should be a change in the rules for non-EU students, especially bachelor students. At the moment, we need a company to apply for our job, which makes it much harder to work while studying or to find opportunities on our own. Bachelor students spend several years in the country before even graduating, and if they could access jobs more independently, it would help them support themselves, gain experience, and integrate into society faster.
So, from my perspective, keeping the 5-year path to citizenship and improving job opportunities for non-EU bachelor students would not only make life easier for individuals like me, but also help the country benefit from motivated and skilled young people who are eager to build their future here.
