I am a highly skilled migrant working in the Netherlands for the past four years and one of the main reasons I moved to the Netherlands was because of passport of the Netherlands. So I can travel around the world for free because my first Passport is not strong! During these four years, I always try to follow the rules And improve my Dutch language! so when I see that you are asking whether it is five years should be 10 or five or whatever then the first question is where these numbers are coming from?
why it is five and it’s not three years?
if the meaning of integration is to follow the rules and leave like a real Dutch person Then this number should be varied person to person so if someone is following the rules and he’s a good citizen then probably he should get the Dutch passport in three years or even less, but if someone is doing crimes, maybe this number can be increased to teach to the person how to treat and live in the society. so my idea is this number five years stays the same for all people who are following the rules and they are good citizens and if someone has a negative behavior then some years can be increased so I think it’s better if government or specialist start to discuss about these negative behaviors Not about the number of the years!
The second point is if government decide to this number becomes more than five years when this should be started? I think it should be started from minimum 2027 because there are some people on the process to move to the Netherlands so Dutch government have to first inform to the all people around the world that these law is changing starting from for example 2027 this should be for example eight years or six years or 10 years so if someone wants to come to the Netherlands and passport is important for them then maybe they can change their idea to go to another country because there are other countries they provide the passport in five years! otherwise, this could make an anger into people that are already living in the Netherlands or coming to here which is not good for safety of country!
I can see this discussion is giving a lot of stress to people specially highly skilled migrant working in the Netherlands which is not good!
