Honestly, this new rule about extending the citizenship period to 10 years feels completely unfair and disconnected from reality.

Let’s be honest — this country already has one of the toughest climates and living costs in Europe. Even many Dutch people choose to move away because of the weather, the pressure, and the lack of balance.
And yet, many of us chose to stay here, to work hard, pay heavy taxes, and build a future — because we believed in the system and the promise of becoming citizens after 5 years.

Now suddenly, the government decides to change the rules in the middle of the game. How is that fair? We’ve invested years of our lives here based on the laws that were in place — many of us can’t even return to our home countries due to political or personal reasons. Dual nationality was one of the main reasons we committed to this path, and now it feels like that trust is being broken.

This decision doesn’t make the Netherlands stronger. It makes it colder — not just in weather, but in heart.
