I do not support the plan to extend the period for naturalization from five to ten years.

A longer waiting time creates uncertainty for people who have lived in the Netherlands for a long time and have built their lives here. Many people have made plans with the idea that they can become Dutch citizens after five years. It is not fair to change these rules now for people who are already in the process of integrating.

This change does not help with integration. On the contrary, it can give people who are already well established here the feeling that they do not belong. It can also ensure that fewer people with talent want to come to the Netherlands to live and work here.
