A stronger bond with the country and a good level of integration comes by being present in the job market and having a job, thus contributing to society by paying taxes and bringing value to the employer, rather than counting the years one spends in the country. I believe one of the conditions for naturalization should be past performance in terms of employment, like other countries do, as well as a good language level that enables you to fully participate in society. Naturalization shouldn't be accessible to those who don't contribute, which shows a lack of effort from their side and a low engagement with society. One can spend years in this country, not working, or working illegally, evading taxes, and yet at the end of these 5 years, they can still apply for naturalization. China for instance doesn't allow residence if you don't bring value to the Chinese society, by setting up your own business or by having a job.
