Dear members of the Ministry of Justice and Security, With respect, I would like to express my objection to the proposal to extend the naturalization period from five to ten years. This change would have major negative consequences for families like mine, who have been living in the Netherlands for years, working and contributing to society. I stay here as a highly educated migrant, together with my partner who works in the Netherlands, and our child who goes to school here. We feel at home in this country, speak the language and actively participate in social life. An extension to ten years would seriously affect our certainty and motivation. Children who grow up here deserve stability. It is not reasonable for their parents to remain in uncertainty about their future for so long. A long-term temporary status undermines integration and the sense of connection with Dutch society. In addition, the current term of five years is already sufficient to prove that someone is loyal and integrated. Highly educated migrants and their families contribute economically, socially and culturally from the moment they arrive here. By doubling the term, that commitment is not rewarded but discouraged. From a practical point of view, this proposal also has adverse consequences: more administrative burdens, higher costs for extensions of stay, and ongoing uncertainty. This is at odds with the objective of a stable and well-integrated society. I therefore urge you to maintain the current term of five years for people with a permanent residence status, family and sustainable contribution to the Netherlands. Strengthen integration not by procrastination, but by giving confidence and recognition to those who call the Netherlands their home. Waiting for ten years is not integration, but alienation. Let the Netherlands remain a country that rewards commitment and involvement with justice and humanity. Best regards, Sid
