I respectfully wish to express my strong concerns regarding the proposed rule change, particularly its retroactive application to individuals who have already been residing in the Netherlands for several years.

While I understand the government’s prerogative to introduce new policies for future immigrants, I believe it is deeply unfair to apply such changes to those of us who have made long-term commitments based on the current legal framework. I have been living in the Netherlands for nearly five years under a Blue Card / Work Permit / Highly Skilled Migrant status. My decision to immigrate legally and build a life here was based on the existing rules, including the five-year pathway to acquiring dutch passport.

Extending this period to ten years for those already settled would significantly disrupt the plans and expectations of many professionals like myself. It undermines the trust we placed in the Dutch system and creates uncertainty for those who have contributed to the country’s economy and society in good faith.

I kindly urge the government to consider applying this rule only to new arrivals, allowing current residents to continue under the terms they originally accepted.
