As a highly skilled knowledge migrant living and working in the Netherlands, I have applied my expertise directly to contribute to the economy. In return, I believe that stability and security in society are the least I should be able to expect. For this reason, I wish to express my objection and concerns regarding the proposed extension of the naturalization period from five to ten years.
Lets not mix highly skilled migrants with asylum seekers. In my opinion, the naturalization period for highly educated knowledge migrants should be reduced to five years. They contribute greatly to the Dutch economy through innovation, expertise, and taxes, while their education and work already show strong integration. By contrast, asylum seekers and irregular migrants—who often rely on government support—should face longer residency requirements. A fairer system would reward economic participation and responsibility, ensuring naturalization policies are both balanced and fair.
