Hello,
I am a qualified expat, and I am genuinely happy living in the Netherlands. I work hard, pay my taxes, and live a peaceful, modest, and fulfilling life here. My wife and our child are also very happy and well-integrated. We feel connected to our community and fully aligned with Dutch values.

That is precisely why I find the proposal to extend the naturalisation period from five to ten years deeply discouraging. People like us — skilled, law-abiding, and well-integrated residents — already contribute positively to this country. Making us feel excluded or unwelcome will not serve the Netherlands in any meaningful way; on the contrary, it risks weakening the sense of belonging that successful integration depends on.

Citizenship should symbolise trust, participation, and shared responsibility. Extending the path to that commitment sends the wrong message to those who have already proven theirs.

I therefore respectfully but firmly oppose this proposal.

Kind regards,
Gökhan
