Dear Mr./Mrs.
Extending the naturalization period sends the wrong message. People who live, work, and contribute here deserve a clear and fair path to citizenship — not more waiting.
I arrived in the Netherlands in October 2020 and immediately started looking for a job. By April 2021, I was already working in my field. When I had the chance, I bought a home — freeing up a social rental house for someone else who needed it. My story isn’t unique; many newcomers work hard from day one, pay taxes, and actively contribute to society. We are not here to take from the government — we are part of building this country.
Look at our neighbor, Germany — citizenship is possible in just three years for those who work and integrate. Instead of extending the Dutch naturalization period, let’s reward contribution and encourage earlier participation. Integration comes from inclusion and opportunity, not from waiting longer to belong.
Citizenship should recognize commitment and contribution — not just time passed.
