I was surprised and shocked to hear the discussions on a potential extension of naturalization periods, and to be honest I would not move my family from Switzerland to the Netherlands if the path to citizenship was also 10 years (as it was in Switzerland) a few months ago. Putting my situation aside, the decision will overall affect the Dutch economy when it comes to attracting right talents and ensuring sustainable economic growth with right demographic balance. I am sure that the individuals proposing this change are well aware of immigrants' contribution to the population, and an absence of it will create heavy burden on remaining taxpayers considering the aging population. I am sure that after an objective and rational evaluation, this bill will be disregarded.
