Extending the naturalization period to 10 years would have a negative impact. People who have been paying taxes, learning the language and actively integrating into the dutch society would not be happy with this. Other European countries have reduced their naturalization period for the same reason, to encourage people to integrate better within the set timeline. This increased timeline would only force more people to leave the country in search of better opportunities and better recognition and not wait 10 years for it.

This process could be segregated to not include the people with highly skilled migrant visa and maybe only have this enforced for refugees, since HSM visa holders are aware of the importance of the language and culture since they work with dutch people.
