Dear Committee,

I would like to share my perspective on the proposal to extend the naturalization period from five years to ten years.

I am a highly skilled migrant who has lived and worked in the Netherlands for the past three years. During this time, I have fully committed myself to building a life here working, paying taxes, learning the Dutch language, and integrating into society. My family and I see the Netherlands as our long-term home.

The current five-year naturalization period provides a fair and balanced path to citizenship. It acknowledges the contributions and dedication of residents who actively participate in Dutch society. Extending this period to ten years would, in my view, discourage integration and make many residents feel excluded for a longer time, despite their ongoing efforts and contributions.

Citizenship is a strong motivator for people to invest in their communities and fully participate in civic life. Rather than extending the waiting period, I believe policies should focus on strengthening integration through language proficiency, community involvement, and shared values.

Maintaining the five-year naturalization period would reflect the Netherlands’ core values of fairness, inclusion, and progress, and would continue to make the country attractive for international talent who wish to contribute and belong.

Thank you for considering my input.

Regards.
