As a highly skilled migrant in the Netherlands, I am deeply concerned about the proposal to extend the naturalization period from five to ten years. Living here without the security of a Dutch passport is already difficult, five years requires real dedication and stability. Doubling this to ten years is excessive and risks discouraging people who are already fully integrated, contributing to the economy, and committed to Dutch society. Five years is sufficient for expats to learn the language, adapt to social norms, and prove long-term commitment. Extending the wait does not create stronger integration, it simply adds unnecessary barriers. If changes are introduced, they should apply only to future migrants, not to those who have already built their lives here under the current rules. This is the fairest approach and respects the contributions we have already made
