U kunt op de gehele regeling en memorie van toelichting reageren.Dear Netherlands, I am writing in response to the consultation on the proposed “Extension of naturalisation waiting-periods” published on the internet consultation platform. internetconsultation.comI wish to express my strong concern about the negative effects of increasing the naturalisation term from 5 to 10 years. Reduced integration incentives Extending the waiting period to 10 years will probably reduce the incentive for immigrants to fully commit to integration, social participation and long-term investment in Dutch society. A 5-year period provides a more manageable horizon; 10 years may feel distant and discourage early engagement. Social cohesion and equalityA 10-year term means that long-term residents (who may have lived and worked in the Netherlands for years) remain without full citizenship rights for much longer. This may deepen feelings of second-class status, and undermine social cohesion and the sense of belonging. Given these concerns, I urge the government to reconsider the shift to a 10-year term and instead maintain the 5-year waiting period at least for high-skilled migranta!
Thank you!
