Countries should be allowed to have harder rules for naturalisation. However, it should be communicated beforehand. I moved to the Netherlands as a PhD researcher, for this specific purpose. Had I known this role, I would have chosen another country 4 years ago. If this law is applicable, it’s only fair if it will be for people who has not yet moved to the country, otherwise it is cruel and unfair.
