Let’s call a spade a spade.

I’m a knowledge worker and I came to the Netherlands because of a number of factors - key among them being how balanced this country is in the measures it takes.

What you’re doing here is just a stunt for the upcoming elections. Survey after survey says that immigrants aren’t the cause of the housing crisis.

But it’s easier to pin your issues on us since we’re voiceless - that is - we can’t vote.

Fixing your problems requires actual collaboration and effort from a government. And that seems to have evaporated the world over, not just in the Netherlands.

You want to extend that term further? To what end? We pay taxes (not all of us have a 30% ruling), contribute to the local economy directly through our work and indirectly through our consumption.

This proposal is just a tool for distraction so you do not have to do the hard work of finding solutions to your problems because it’ll hurt the feeble foundation on which your campaigns, agendas, and coalitions are built.

I expected better from you. Sad to see that you don’t.
