I strongly disagree with the proposed plan to extend the naturalization period in the Netherlands from 5 to 10 years. The length of stay does not necessarily reflect a person’s level of integration or contribution to society. Five years is more than enough time to assess how well someone has integrated, and contributed to the Dutch economy. This proposal would unfairly penalize highly skilled migrants who have chosen to build their lives and careers here. Had I known about this potential change, I might have reconsidered my decision to move to the Netherlands instead of staying in Germany. The proposal feels discriminatory toward people who genuinely invest in Dutch society and wish to become part of it.
