I firmly oppose the proposal to increase the naturalization period from five to ten years. This policy is misguided, unjust, and detrimental to the Netherlands. At a time when the country is already struggling to attract highly skilled migrants, such a change would only deepen the problem. It risks driving away talented professionals who could otherwise enrich our economy and society. Extending the waiting time undermines the Netherlands’ appeal as a destination for skilled workers. Longer delays do not foster integration—they simply postpone access to equal rights, a sense of belonging, and social unity.
