I am against the proposal to add 5 more years (totally 10 years) to get the Dutch citizenship. We came here with many dreams, hopes and expectations from middle east, and this would leave us halfway and makes our future uncertain. Doubling the citizenship time will ultimately turn the country less desirable to highly skilled immigrants and family reunification. Is this proposal a political drama for the vote bank? 5 years is a pretty decent duration for integration with the community. However, I honestly welcome and appreciate the decision to enhance the language proficiency level from A2 to B1 and this is where the country to focus more if they really worried about any lacuna in current integration agenda. It is quite strange the neighboring countries like Germany are shortening this period whereas it is getting doubled in Netherlands. I am positive and keeping my fingers crossed that this proposal should never go to the next step.
