I strongly oppose the plan to raise the naturalization waiting period in the Netherlands from 5 to 10 years, because

Don't hurt our children!
This change is especially bad for children. They grow up here, go to school here, and speak Dutch perfectly. The Netherlands is their only home. Denying them citizenship for 10 years takes away their security and their right to feel fully a part of their own country.

Five years is enough. In five years, a person can learn the language, find work, and prove they belong in Dutch society. If integration hasn't happened in five years, it won't happen in ten. Making people wait 10 years is unfair and discouraging. Citizenship is what makes people fully commit—to working, paying taxes, and building a life here. Doubling the wait will only make people feel like outsiders, not insiders.

This proposal has economic risk. A 10-year wait will drive away skilled workers and talent who can easily choose another country with a shorter path to citizenship. This hurts the economy. The people who are less mobile will not be discouraged.

I urge you to keep the 5-year rule. It is fair, it helps integration, and it is best for the future of the Netherlands.

Aleksandr,
Conscientious taxpayer
