As someone who initially came to the Netherlands in 2021 to complete a master's, I decided to come back for a second one in 2024, and tried to maintain my residency in the interim only because this country is an exceptional place that allows me to be a fully autonomous person with the ability to think, wear, do and exist as I please. Not only is the culture in universities engaging, exciting and inviting, I continue to find interesting, engaged people who take the balance of life and work seriously. This is an exceptional place to live, and I understand that makes the burden of immigration quite difficult, however, as exceptional as it is, most of us have contributed to our municipalities, to the city taxes, garbage and overpay in our rent as internationals. We do this because we believe in the investment we are making here, and experience the bliss of our investment everyday. It has by no means been something that any of us try to take advantage of. There are many countries even in the EU that share similar flavours of freedom, culture or experiences but the netherlands stands apart as a place where you feel welcomed, surprised by its uniqueness of chocolate sprinkles on bread, whine collectively on the aspects of weather, laugh together during borrel, curse frantically at people on the bike lanes and always feel safe, accepted and blessed.
I have put all into trying to find a job, a small place for myself in this small country and as someone who has learnt so much of being a well-rounded, independent person from the people that I am surrounded by, I hope these people are looking out for me and understand that belonging is something that we have put all our heart into, without malice and without flinching and the least we deserve is a shot at security, a full array of rights and a sense of belongingness that is so important to every human.

As such, I register my hopes that we continue to uphold the 5 year naturalisation plan and allow people who are meaningfully contributing to the netherlands---when the Netherlands so meaningfully contributes to it--to reside, live and prosper here.
