The current proposal seems unfair to those who are already in the country and started their clock (especially those who had already passed voluntary integration, but are not able to apply for citizenship as not yet meeting the 5-year mark). I respect the country’s right to manage their immigration policy the way they deem the most appropriate, but this would create distrust and actually lack of motivation for integration. I believe keeping the provision to still be able to apply for citizenship at 5-years mark to those who are already in the country would be fairer approach.
