I respectfully oppose the proposal to extend the naturalisation period from five to ten years, as such a measure would delay integration, weaken social cohesion, and place Netherlands among the most restrictive in Europe, diverging from the common five years. Many long-term residents already contribute to society through work, taxes, and community life, and postponing their access to citizenship would unnecessarily undermine their stability and that of their families, particularly children. Integration is better achieved through civic education, language learning, and active participation, not by extending waiting periods. For these reasons, I urge that the naturalisation period remain at five years.
