I would like to share my view on this subject. As a highly educated migrant who contributes to the economy, pays taxes and integrates into society, and whose children go to local school and after-school activities, it feels unfair to be subject to change retroactively. If the government decides to implement this law, in my opinion it is important to ensure that: 1) the law only applies to people and things with a residence permit that were obtained after the entry into force of the law. The rules remain unchanged (5 years and exceptions) for people with a valid residence permit. Even some highly educated migrants decided to leave their country of origin and move to the Netherlands due to negative political factors. This means that with certain passports they have limited rights compared to Dutch citizens, now for an excessively long period. 2) distinguish between rules for different categories of expats. You could consider different rules to obtain citizenship for migrants with a work permit and for migrants with other categories (humanitarian, etc.). 3) You could set stricter requirements for integration into Dutch cultural and social life (more than just the civic integration exam) instead of just tightening naturalization.
I would like to share my vision on the topic. As a highly skilled migrant who contributes to the economy, pays taxes and integrates into society, whose kids attend local school and after-school activities, it feels unfair to be subject to changes retrospectively. If the government decides to proceed with this law, in my view it is important to at least ensure: 1) the law affects only the people and cases with residence permits received after law's effective date. The rules shall remain unchanged (5 years and exceptions) for those with valid residence permits. Even some highly-skilled migrants decided to leave their countries of resindece and move to the Netherlands due to negative political factors. Meaning that with certain passports they stay limited in rights comparing to Dutch citizens, now for excessively prolonged time. 2) distinguish rules for different categories of expats. You might consider vatious rules to obtain citizenship for migrants under working permits and those with other categories (humanitarian, etc.). 3) You might establish more requirements for integration into Dutch cultural and social life (wider than just civic integration test) instead of simply making naturalization stricter.
