Dear,

As a highly skilled immigrant who has lived, worked, and planned my life and career in the Netherlands, I would like to respectfully express my concern about extending the naturalization period from five to ten years.

I do not see myself in a position to comment on whether this extension is right or wrong, as I am not yet a Dutch national and I fully respect the decisions made by the Dutch government and its people. However, I believe I have the right to share my opinion on one specific aspect: fairness toward those who already live here and have built their future based on the current five-year rule.

Many of us have made long-term plans, career decisions, and investments in the Netherlands under the existing system. Applying the new rule retroactively would be discouraging and unfair to those who trusted the current framework. I sincerely hope this proposal will consider fairness for existing residents and apply any new regulation only to newcomers entering the country after if this law is going to take effect.
