Subject: Protest against the extension of the naturalization period to ten years

I strongly oppose the proposal to extend the naturalization period from five to ten years.

This modification would not enhance integration and loyalty. Motivated inhabitants who already make significant contributions to Dutch society would be discouraged.

Important points

1. Inclusion is the necessary condition for integration, not an extended period of waiting. Citizenship motivates individuals to enhance their language abilities, engage in local activities, and invest in their future. This process is postponed by extending the waiting period.

2. Stability is required in the labour market. Numerous educated migrants are employed, contribute to taxes, and fulfil critical roles. The likelihood of losing talent to other countries will increase, and their sense of belonging will be diminished by a ten-year postponement.

3. Families endure extended periods of uncertainty. For years, children who are born or raised in this region are trapped in a grey zone, which undermines their sense of security and belonging.

4. The level of administrative pressure rises. The extension of the term results in increased expenditures for the immigration system and a greater number of residence permit renewals, without any discernible benefit.

5. Motivation and equity. Individuals who adhere to all regulations and make contributions should not be subjected to unnecessary delays. The five-year period already enables an accurate assessment of compliance and dedication.

Suggestion
Maintain a five-year naturalization period. Enhance integration by enhancing civic support, fraud prevention, and Dutch language education, rather than by extending the wait time.

This method will ensure equity, promote engagement, and benefit both the economy and society.
