Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposal to extend the naturalisation period in the Netherlands from 5 years to 10 years. As a resident who has made the Netherlands my home, I have integrated into society, followed the rules, contributed through work, and actively participated in the community. The current 5-year period provides a fair and balanced timeframe for residents to build their lives here and demonstrate their commitment to Dutch society.
Extending this period to 10 years would significantly delay the sense of belonging and stability that citizenship provides. Many of us have invested emotionally, professionally, and financially in this country, and citizenship is not just a legal status, it represents security, inclusion, and the ability to fully participate in society.
I strongly urge the government to reconsider this proposal and maintain the 5-year period, which strikes a good balance between integration requirements and the desire of residents to fully become part of Dutch society.
