Extending citizenship requirements to ten years represents poor policy design that contradicts Netherlands' economic interests, violates principles of fairness toward contributing migrants, and damages the country's competitive position in attracting global talent.
Instead of arbitrary timeline extensions, the government should implement rigorous but fair integration measures within the current five-year framework. If timeline extension proceeds despite these concerns, basic equity demands extending the 30% ruling to ten years and implementing grandfather clauses for current residents.
HSM holders like yourself have demonstrated commitment to Dutch society through investment, employment, tax contributions, and integration efforts. You deserve recognition as valued community members rather than treatment as perpetual outsiders subject to ever-increasing barriers to full participation in Dutch society.
The Netherlands faces a choice: embrace policies that attract and retain global talent essential for economic competitiveness, or implement barriers that drive valuable contributors to more welcoming jurisdictions. The ten-year citizenship proposal clearly falls into the latter category and deserves reconsideration in favor of enhanced but fair integration requirements.
