I moved to the Netherlands on a highly skilled professional visa and am incredibly grateful to the government for the opportunity to contribute to society and benefit from lower taxes. Another key reason I chose the Netherlands was the possibility to fully integrate and obtain citizenship within a reasonable timeframe, allowing me to truly settle and build my life here - to vote, feel represented, and belong as part of the community rather than remain a temporary resident. Extending the naturalization period from 5 to 10 years would significantly change that perspective. It makes you wonder if long-term commitment and integration are still being encouraged, or whether it might be wiser to consider opportunities in countries that offer a clearer and faster path to belonging.
