I do not support increasing the time required for naturalization from 5 to 10 years. When I decided to immigrate to the Netherlands, one of the key factors in my decision was the understanding that I could apply for citizenship after 5 years of lawful residence. This timeline gave me a sense of stability, motivation, and belonging while integrating into Dutch society.

Extending the naturalization period to 10 years would create uncertainty and discourage immigrants who are working hard to contribute to the country. It could also delay their full participation in Dutch society — including the right to vote and the ability to feel truly at home.

I believe maintaining the current 5-year requirement supports integration, social cohesion, and fairness for those who have already built their lives here with the expectation of becoming citizens under the current rules.
