I have two points to highlight, one regarding the Netherlands as a destination for those who can choose (e.g. high skill migrants), another about a differing point of view on integration and bonds with the society.
Many migrants (including myself) chose the Netherlands at least over other European countries because of clear laws around naturalisation and attainability of it. Extending the period to 10 years pushes the Netherlands down on the list. For some parties this is the intended effect (less immigration of any kind), while for others it is a negative secondary effect.
When it comes to integration and sense of belonging, this policy (or the length of time in general) can work in the opposite way: many get that sense of belonging that supports more involvement with the society and settling down during and after naturalisation. Otherwise up until that moment, there is always a chance that rules change and they cannot obtain it (as it is happening now), or their situation change and better (or faster) options become available in other countries. It is becoming a citizen that binds many to the land and society, not the other way around.
