To whom it may concern,

I am a successful and promising legal professional currently pursuing my master’s degree in Law and Technology at one of the Netherlands’ leading universities. I feel privileged to study here, to learn from distinguished scholars, and to deepen my expertise in a country that values both the rule of law and international talent.

From the very first month of my arrival, I began learning Dutch. I completed the A1 level and continued with A2 lessons, while also joining cultural activities and meeting people to better understand Dutch society. These efforts reflect my sincere wish to integrate and contribute.

The five-year naturalization period played a crucial role in my decision to move to the Netherlands and study here. Knowing that after five years of living, studying, and working, I could apply for naturalization gave me a sense of security and a long-term perspective. Now, in my second year, I am fully committed to building my future in the Netherlands.

Extending the naturalization period to ten years, however, would undermine this motivation. Five years is a reasonable and balanced timeframe to prove integration. Ten years would discourage highly skilled migrants and international students from choosing the Netherlands in the first place, making the country less attractive in an already competitive global market for talent. Personally, this change would delay my ability to fully belong, to plan my career and life here, and to contribute at my maximum potential. On a broader level, the Netherlands risks losing individuals like me, highly trained professionals who want to invest their futures here. This is a decision where both sides lose: the individual loses motivation and stability, while the country loses attractiveness and potential contributors.

If the government nevertheless decides to proceed, I respectfully urge you to include a transitional arrangement. Those who are already close to completing their five years under the current rule should not be disadvantaged retroactively. This would be a fair compromise, protecting trust and acknowledging the commitments already made.

Beyond all these points, my ultimate goal is to build my life and family in the Netherlands. I have successfully adapted to Dutch culture, even in 1-year, and wish to continue living here with love for this country and a true sense of belonging.

Best regards.
