I strongly disagree with the proposal to extend the naturalisation period to 10 years. Such a change would unfairly punish people who have already built their lives in the Netherlands under the current 5-year rule. Many residents have already completed half of the required period and made important life decisions based on this timeline — from planning their children’s education, to buying homes, to setting their careers and future in this country.

Immigrants are not just living here temporarily; they are working, paying taxes, and contributing actively to Dutch society. Their children are already in Dutch schools, speaking the language, and growing up as part of this country. Extending the requirement to 10 years would disrupt these plans and create unnecessary uncertainty for thousands of families who are already fully committed to the Netherlands.
