Without timely access to citizenship, it becomes much harder to buy a home, access fair insurance, and plan a stable future, creating uncertainty for those who are already contributing to Dutch society. It is important to implement any changes thoughtfully: individuals who are already living in the Netherlands on any type of visa should be allowed to follow the 5-year naturalisation pathway they planned for, as changing the rules in between would affect them the most. New arrivals can follow the updated 10-year requirement. By doing so, the Netherlands can continue to welcome global talent, support their integration, and ensure they feel valued as part of the community.
