Hello,

It has been less than 2 years I have come to the Netherlands to work as a highly skilled migrant. In this period, I have already reached to B1 level in Dutch language, made many Dutch friends and attended to many buurt activities to get integrated. Always felt welcomed by Dutch people and appreciated by them.

I could have other options to pursue my career and life, however, having the integration policies very welcoming in the Netherlands, I've made my choice to live here as the many other expats like me. We put our best to add value to this society and country which has made it easier for us to work on what we are good at till now. Extending this period from 5 to 10 years makes everything more complicated not only for expats but also Dutch people. Because statistics clearly show that the Netherlands needs high skilled people to keep its growth and wealth.

The decision would turn this mutual win-win situation into a two-edged knife which may harm both expats and Dutch people in the long term, which may affect the future choices of highly skilled migrants to build up their lives. 5 years is a really legit period of time whereas 10 years is a seriously demotivating duration.

It would only increase the insecurities, not the security of Dutch people.
