A passport is not only about a document, but also about the feeling of belonging. Acceptance must grow through culture and society, not through stricter laws.
I respectfully believe that such a change should/could apply only to future immigrants because current residents made their decision to settle here without prior knowledge of this adjustment.
I believe a longer waiting period makes the Netherlands less attractive to skilled migrants and students, weakening the knowledge economy. On the other hand, people who live, work, and pay taxes should not be treated as second-class for a decade before gaining full participation.
As a skilled migrant, I see me as a person who brought my knowledge, experience, and skills to built this country and I also have/feel some benefits of living in Netherlands. With changing the rules which we already agreed upon (or raising the same topics occasionally) , how we can trust this country? Is there any guaranty they change 10 years to 15 after a while? With all due respect, I see it as a sign distrust and uncertainty.
of course, I am not in a position to advice, just as per my perspective, this country needs high skilled migrants and vice-versa and this is a two-way profit for both so, nothing should damage this mindset. Extra precaution for illegal migrants or refugee may be a better solution in this case.
