It is disappointing to see such a regulation being suggested. One of the biggest reasons I have traveled to the NL is the ability to integrate with the people, them being friendly and helpful and honest, and that was driving my integration efforts by learning the language and even some jokes and expressions. Now it makes no sense to do this effort, as it feels the country is rejecting me from the get-go.
Highly skilled migrants travel to seek a better economy for their families, refugees run from countries that still suffer the consequences of colonialism to seek safety and a good life, it makes no sense to refuse this people specially that it's a win-win for both parties to have people working in the country, living and paying their money and creating a circular economy. I don't know what the 10 years instead of 5 aims to achieve. Most of the people I know already own homes, learn dutch, and some have kids in dutch schools, before even the 5 years could end. It could actually deter a lot of people from continuing to live in the Netherlands, as there are other countries with less time to get naturalised and they also offer a dual citizenship, with also a good IT market a quite similar culture. The fact that we want citizenships means we wanna live here more than just the 30% ruling time, and contribute more to the country.
