When I moved to the Netherlands three years ago, I structured my entire life around the five-year timeline. Major decisions (career choices, home purchase, and relationship planning) were made based on this legal framework.
Changing these rules midway through the process is fundamentally unfair to those already invested in integration.

The stated purpose is ensuring a "durable connection," but integration is not merely time-based. Over three years, I have:
- Worked in Dutch tech sector, contributing to the economy and innovation
- Enrolled in Dutch language courses toward required proficiency
- Committed financially through home purchase
- Paid taxes and built professional and personal networks

Extending my timeline to 10 years does not enhance my integration, it delays recognition of integration already achieved. Also, my partner plans to start a business and pursue further education in the Netherlands. This uncertainty makes business planning and study commitments nearly impossible.

After three years of legal residence, employment, language learning, tax contributions, and home purchase commitment, I have demonstrated the "durable connection" sought by this policy. Requiring seven additional years does not enhance integration; it creates hardship for those who have already committed their lives to the Netherlands. Thank you.
